Hello from rainy Philippines! I hope and pray you are doing well in the 4th month of lockdown and pandemic.
In these times, it is an opportunity for us to grow our faith and consider it all joy when we encounter various trials (James 1:2-3). I think this is very hard for believers in America right now, with all the riots and hate going on. But we are told to live out or practice the word. So how can we think about or consider it joy in this or any problem? Well, one thing comes to mind, we are learning to grow the fruit of peace in the midst of unsettled times.
What that means...
...is we discover we are not in any way peaceful within ourselves and this trial is testing my peace and I am getting a C- in the realm of life. ...JOY you can now grow more peace and faith in this time of testing ...or our lack of freedom by wearing the mask ...or lack of income (Jen's income was cut by 1/2) Whoop whoop! We have been able to give so much away to people these past 4 months! If I told you how much we have given away you would not believe me.
Now we did have to stop making payments on a property we were trying to buy since we could not make the mortgage payments, and we are hoping the real estate company will give us back the money we have paid or the real estate agent will be able to sell it and we can recoup some of if not all.
Remember my problem with the barking dogs? and the three kids in our home who did not want to study the bible? Well God answered your prayers. By advice from my Filipino pastor, I started having the kids teach the bible lesson each week. Gaius taught on James 1 and the Lord is teaching me to have patience with our barking dogs...and it is working! Plus the kids are really studying the bible...win-win!
We had a God story last week that is always wonderful.
Last Sunday, a man came by on his tricycle to buy our plastic and tin cans, His name is June after we had loaded up 6-7 bags of plastic he paid us 2 dollars. I have been praying for the Lord to send people to our door who need physical healings or spiritual healings. After a few brief questions and having him listen to 1 Cor5:21 this man gave his life to Jesus…or a better way to say it is he thanked Jesus for becoming sin and give June the free gift of righteousness. :) On Tuesday the following week my son, Gaius was going somewhere around noon riding on his motorcycle. as he approached an intersection, he noticed a tricycle broke down in the middle of the road. Gaius did not know it at the time but it was June the man who had given his life to Jesus on Sunday. The cycle had broken in half and was jammed into the road, loaded down with goods many people we watching and cars backing up but NO ONE was helping. So, Gaius stopped and tried to help but could not move the heavy load, just then men who were watching from the sides of the road all ran to help push the trike out of the road. Gaius asked what June was going to do next? June said he does not know. This is the only way to feed his 4 kids and wife and all he has is 50 pesos in his pocket (1 dollar). Gaius told June that he had bought our scraps last Sunday and his dad is the white American. June said yes I remember. Then Gaius took out 1000 pesos (twenty dollars) and gave it to June. He began to cry and fell on his knees saying I will never forget you and your family and how you have showed me God's amazing love. He was able to buy some food and get his trike fixed with the twenty dollars he was given. Jen and I are rejoicing that our son is learning to love and give also!!!
We were able to have two zoom meetings with our church planting team and they too are doing well but long to see us face to face and to start planting churches again.
I was able to buy Curry Blakes DHT training manual and share it by permission in pdf file with the group. Pray that they are able to understand the teachings and then put it into practice. I believe the Lord is going to use this to birth signs wonders and healing churches in the Philippines.
